A Waiting Room Vision: Celebrating Wellness & Co. and What’s Coming!

by Dr. Kendra O’Hora

Reading Time: 4 minutes

We made it. Thanks for sticking with me! We made it to the final piece of the brand launch story. There’s so much more to the story, though. To be honest, I’ll likely be making sense of it for the rest of my life. Thank god for therapists, mine is ah-maz-ing.

Maybe I’ll share more when it makes sense. The most important piece to me isn’t to share but to integrate each piece of my healing into a meaningful life. You can do that, too.

It’s OK to Say No

In fact, I also want to share the reminder for those that have resonated with pieces of my story that we don’t have to answer to the masses.

One thing I didn’t share in this blog series were all the details of what I endured, what me and my siblings experienced, and the mess I’m still trying to clean up. And I don’t owe those details to anyone. Neither do you.

You don’t have to answer why you’re cut off or why you stayed. You don’t have to answer when family members, friends, or colleagues want to know “what actually happened to you?” You don’t have to defend your experience. You don’t have to fill in the gaps for people who are confused.

It’s THEIR job to look inward, reconnect with self, and determine how they feel in the midst of their own story.

It’s YOUR job to do the same. Sometimes that means a lot is left unsaid and relationships don’t make it out on the other side. It’s hard to reassure you that it’ll be OK because some days, it’s not. Some days the grief is really, really big.

But I do want you to know that there is help available. That’s why I created this branch of Wellness & Co. That’s why I hired this team of expert providers. All because I want you to know your chaos, confusion, and pain doesn’t have to linger.

For now, there’s one more thing I want to tell you about how this all came to be…

My Waiting Room Vision

Sometimes healing is so evident and clear it’s like a time stamp you’ll never forget.

Other times, it’s a vague memory that just gets folded into all the rest.

Somewhere after Baby #3 was born (that’s about 20 months ago for those keeping up) my relationship to my healing journey became a constant. An integrated part of my identity.

And one day I had a vision.

I imagined a room. A waiting room for my therapy practice. But not my current waiting room. One that would eventually exist. A future space where I knew people would feel settled, seen, and comforted.

If you’ve ever seen our current waiting room it’s beautiful, truly serene (watch below to check out our updated office space).

And yet, I envisioned a more creative space with neutral tones and an artistic display that would showcase the inspiration behind this journey – my sister.

The vision always included our current energy, focus, and love for couples but it also included a curated art display showcasing my sister’s poetry. Hundreds of pieces of paper hanging from a wire across the wall with a typewriter at the end… inviting every client that was willing to write their story.

Maybe they’d add it to our collection and we would develop a gallery of healing art for all to experience. Maybe they’d jot a poem and take it home for themselves to honor their truth and cling to future hope. Maybe they’d stare at the typewriter with a blank mind and confusion about how they’d ever know what to write. All versions of healing felt OK and necessary in this space.

To me, this living, breathing exhibit would be the inspiration behind what I knew would be thousands of women reclaiming their story, voice, truth, and identity.

That waiting room doesn’t exist yet. But it will.

Wellness & Co. is growing.

We continue to look for our forever home in Harford County. A building we can buy, renovate, and settle into. A place where we can host outdoor gatherings, healing workshops, artistic adventures, couples offerings, and more.

A place that will feel natural, safe, expansive, and purposeful.

The beginning of this very important story right here in Harford County begins with developing a landing place for clients to heal from narcissistic abuse, emotionally immature parents, chronic shame, and toxic relationships.

We’ve built the team. We’ve built the brand. We’ve built the website.

I’ve built a slower, safer existence as Kendra – as wife, mom, business owner, colleague, and friend.

My sister, she’s built a sober life. A clear-headed life. A creative life. An expansive life.

The whole Wellness & Co. team wants nothing more than to help you, and this entire community, build something beautiful. Let’s do it together.

Love,

Dr. K
