Hello readers – I hope this blog finds you well! Today, I’d like to spend some time focused on midlife transitions, particularly in women ages 40 through 60.
That’s right…this one’s for you, ladies!
If you answered YES to any of these questions, then this blog is for you!
I can’t help but wonder, why do we call it “the midlife crisis?” Why is it a “crisis?” Of course, you may find yourself feeling suddenly depressed, malaise, or dissatisfied with various aspects of your life, which does imply some valid urgency to feel better, but I’d like to argue that there is more normalcy in this phase than we give it credit for! And, it does not have to become a disaster!
In other words, you are NOT crazy for suddenly feeling down or anxious at this point in your life. It is completely natural for you to be examining your life to this moment, and it is not unlikely to find yourself desiring more or wishing you could or should have done things differently.
In reality, as we get older and our roles change, so do our needs.
The stigma around the term “midlife crisis” implies that we have no control. Indeed, when we are suddenly depressed and anxious with no clarity around where it is stemming from, we can feel out of control. Then, we may act impulsively or out of desperation to try to alleviate the confusion, sadness, irritability, or anxiety.
Instead, we can choose to use this time as an opportunity to grow.
So, how about we rename the “midlife crisis” to “midlife growth!?”
To be direct, I absolutely LOVE helping women through this phase of midlife.
You may be asking yourself, how do I grow through this when I feel so terrible? What does “growth” look like?
In the therapy room, I truly enjoy facilitating the discovery of meaningful connections between the past and present while fostering hope (and even excitement!) for the future. Together, we can explore where your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are stemming from – giving you the validation and insight you are seeking. I can then also help empower you to voice your new needs, set healthier boundaries, and find new meaning in life and relationships.
If you’re ready to start exploring (and feeling better!), contact me today! Let’s get growing!
